Job Description: Special Education Teacher
Location: Morven, Georgia
Overview: Morven City Schools is actively seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to join our educational team. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with special needs by developing individualized learning plans, providing specialized instruction, and fostering a collaborative environment among students, teachers, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of each student.
- Deliver specialized instruction in various settings, including inclusive classrooms, resource rooms, and self-contained classrooms.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Conduct assessments to track student progress and adjust instructional methods as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, school administrators, and special education staff to support student inclusion and success.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.
- Maintain detailed and confidential records of student performance, IEPs, and other necessary documentation.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices and advancements in special education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate in Special Education (P-12) [T-4] or higher.
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and developmental delays.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Additional certifications or endorsements in specialized areas such as Autism or Behavior Intervention.
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in Special Education General Curriculum (P-12) or a related field.
- Successful completion of the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) exams for Special Education.
- Completion of a state-approved educator preparation program.
- Clear background check and fingerprinting as required by Morven City Schools.
