Job Description:
As a School-Based Occupational Therapist, you will play a crucial role in supporting students development and academic success by addressing their motor, sensory, and functional needs within the school environment. Your role will involve assessing, diagnosing, and providing therapeutic interventions to help students improve their daily living skills, motor coordination, and sensory processing.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct thorough evaluations to identify students' needs related to fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, and activities of daily living.
- Use a variety of assessment tools and techniques to develop a prehensive understanding of each students functional abilities and challenges.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the educational team, including teachers, school counselors, and parents.
- Set clear, measurable goals for each students occupational therapy needs and create tailored intervention strategies to meet those goals.
Therapeutic Interventions:
- Provide direct therapy services to students to enhance their motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living abilities.
- Utilize evidence-based practices and customized therapeutic activities to address individual needs and support students engagement in classroom and school activities.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school professionals to integrate therapy goals into daily classroom activities and support students functional needs.
- Provide training and guidance to teachers and staff on strategies to support students with occupational therapy needs.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of student assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans.
- Prepare prehensive reports for IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school evaluations, ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and organizational standards.
Family and munity Engagement:
- municate effectively with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies to support physical development at home.
- Participate in school and munity events to promote awareness of occupational therapy and advocate for students needs.
Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in occupational therapy practices and techniques.
- Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
Licensure: Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Colorado. National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification is required.
Experience: Previous experience in a school setting or with children is highly desirable. New graduates with strong clinical training and a passion for working in educational environments are also encouraged to apply.
