Description:
A Nutritional Services Cook prepares, cooks, and serves hot and cold food products to patients, staff, and visitors within the strictest sanitation standards. Assist with Patient Education and the Customer Satisfaction process. Scheduled workdays and times could vary and will include weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Prepares appealing and palatable hot and cold food items for inpatients and outpatients, cafeteria, and catered functions according to standardized recipes.
- Maintains strict sanitation standards and temperature controls during all phases of the food preparation, recording food temperatures as required.
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment and work area per daily and weekly schedule.
- Reviews daily menus and tally sheet and plans day’s production to meet timely preparation, arranging for necessary substitutes 24 hours in advance.
- Utilizes cost control methods to effectively produce food with minimal waste.
- Maintains ongoing lists of items for purchase.
- Maintains an orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and physical related information
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the kitchen in the absence of the supervisor.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Graduation from high school is preferred.
- Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Must be able to make simple calculations.
- Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation process required.
- Knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Illinois Food Sanitation Managers Certificate or willing to obtain in 30 days of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
- Required to climb, balance, stoop and kneel.
- Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases
- Could be subject to mechanical hazards.
- Requires working in hot and cold temperatures.
- The noise level is quiet to moderate.
