Salary:
Cooks in the KARM kitchen are passionate about serving well-balanced meals for those in need in the community. In addition to three daily meals, we offer a 12-week culinary training program for our unemployed and underemployed guest. Cooks must have some knowledge of preparing for meals for large groups, however will train the right candidate with the right attitude and passion for those we serve. Candidate will maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment in compliance with Knox County Health Department regulations. Staff enjoy working with and value working with guests, students, and volunteers.
Requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith; spiritually mature
- 2-4 years’ kitchen experience; volume production experience preferred; current ServSafe certification preferred
- Strong working knowledge of standard culinary techniques; ability to utilize and adapt recipes and perform standard mathematical calculations
- Demonstrated ability to establish respectful relationships with students, instructors, staff, and volunteers
- Ability to show grace, be hospitable, and to be an example of servant leadership
- Working knowledge of appropriate boundaries
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to give direction to others; high degree of flexibility and resourcefulness; team player
Working Conditions
- Ministry campus facility where emergency rescue services are provided
- Exposure to stressful student situations requiring discernment
- Majority of time spent in kitchen with commercial kitchen equipment
- Kitchen has concrete floors and may be warmer than optimum
- Walking, standing, sitting, bending and lifting up to 30 pounds required
- Some travel required between KARM facilities and within the community
- Occasional required attendance at KARM meetings or special events, sometimes during evening hours
