The Clerk’s Offices for the United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Indiana are accepting applications for a full-time Information Technology Technician I in the Fort Wayne Division. The incumbent will be a shared services employee who performs various functions for both Clerk’s Offices, including end user support activities for computer-based systems, help desk support for end users, technical support in installing and configuring computer hardware and software programs, routine troubleshooting, and technology support in the courtrooms. As a member of the Court’s information technology team, the incumbent will report to the District Court Systems Manager and is expected to participate in ongoing training and professional development. This position may require lifting and moving of moderately heavy items, such as computers and audio equipment. Performing duties during non-business hours when needed is required.
Representative Duties:
· Respond to help desk calls/emails.
· Provide technical support.
· Support, test, and maintain technology in courtrooms.
· Log computer problems.
· Assist users on applications currently in use.
· Provide end user training as needed.
· Manage Accountable Property Inventory.
· Assist with setup, configuration, installation and documentation of hardware and software.
· Assist with deployment and/or excessing of IT equipment, including mobile devices.
· Provide cabling support.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, the applicant should be a proactive self-starter who has:
· a high school diploma or equivalent;
· two years of general experience that indicates the possession of, or the ability to acquire, the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the position's duties;
· one year of specialized experience in the Information Technology (IT) field which demonstrates proficiency in the competencies of IT and Automation;
· the ability to work independently and harmoniously with others in a team-based setting;
· the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks and work assignments;
· strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
· the ability to communicate technical information effectively (orally and in writing) to end users in an understandable manner;
· excellent customer service skills; and
· sound judgment, maturity, tact, trustworthiness, and dependability.
Education above the high school level may be substituted for general experience.
Court Preferred Qualifications:
· An associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or other field closely related to the subject matter of the position; or certification from related Military training; or certification from similar technical training institutions, is preferred.
· Two or more years of specialized experience.
· Prior experience providing help desk support.
· A consistent past employment record.
· Knowledge of custom off-the-shelf hardware and software programs.
· Demonstrated experience in project management.
Some travel to other divisional offices (South Bend; Hammond) with occasional overnight stays is also a requirement of the position.
Conditions of Employment:
Judiciary employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees. This position is classified as a high-sensitive position within the federal judiciary. As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must successfully complete a background investigation with periodic updates every five years thereafter. Employee will be hired provisionally pending results of the background investigation and retention will depend upon a favorable suitability determination.
