The Position:
The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) is seeking a talented individual to assist its Member Assistance Program department and serves as a confidential, professional-level clinician and assistant program manager. BAC, North America’s longest-serving trade union, is dedicated to organizing masonry craftworkers throughout the United States and Canada for the purpose of improving the lives of our members, their families, and their communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides mental health, substance use, and wellbeing services (including informal assessment, diagnostic impressions, support, and guidance) and crisis intervention for union members and their families (primarily telephonically).
Provides clinical case management to union members who call the MAP Helpline for information and referral support.
Conducts research using sound clinical judgment and discretion to locate appropriate resources and referrals for mental/behavioral health and substance use treatment. Additional/alternative social-work related referrals are also often needed for union members seeking assistance.
o Research consists of contacting mental health professionals, treatment facilities, community agencies, and other service providers to locate needed resources for callers (some of whom are in crisis). Additional research about specific medical, mental health or other quality-of-life conditions and treatment recommendations may also be needed. Such assistance with services may include social, financial, housing, health, and legal.
Connects union members to appropriate resources/coordinates member care services (care coordination); in addition to ensuring union member safety, encouraging participation in rehabilitation/treatment programs, facilitating problem solving, providing psychoeducation, and counseling on making healthier, safer, and more productive pathways forward.
Communicates with insurance representatives when needed to verify eligibility and to obtain provider information.
Maintains case history reports and other relevant documents/data, consistent with industry best-practices for record/file keeping. Learns and utilizes MAP database for record keeping purposes.
Supports union leadership in managing crises that arise with members. Provides psychoeducation and guidance to union leadership surrounding matters that pertain to mental health and substance use.
Completes reports and other administrative duties associated with the role (including professional correspondence).
Supports MAP Director in program management (with the additional support of MAP’s Program Coordinator). This may include assistant with MAP related content development (such as for MAP’s website), support in designing and implementing program marketing and outreach materials and strategies, and occasional writing assignments.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a master’s degree in social work (LCSW, LICSW, LGSW on track to becoming LC, LMSW), and maintains professional licensure status.
Minimum of 3 years of direct service experience in clinical mental health settings. Experience and skill in working with substance and alcohol use disorders is required. Experience with the delivery of telephonic mental health services and support is favored.
Knowledge and experience in key clinical areas to include a wide range of mental health disorders/mental and behavioral health challenges (including suicidality and chronic, severe mental illness), substance and alcohol use disorders, and other DSM diagnoses; as well as knowledge of navigating social services, child and vulnerable adult welfare, domestic violence, retirement planning, healthcare and insurance systems, and vocational rehabilitation.
Background and training in clinical crisis intervention.
Knowledge of/interest in union membership/labor movement, the types of challenges workers in the construction industry face; at a minimum, a strong willingness to learn.
Experience and training in working with multiculturally diverse populations, as well as disadvantaged populations and populations with trauma backgrounds.
Bilingual in English and Spanish; strong verbal and written communication skills required in English and Spanish.
Education and training in professional mental health ethics and confidentiality.
Ongoing professional training related to working in EAP/MAP settings, mental health settings, and an in-depth knowledge of clinical terminology, treatment modalities, best practices, and protocols.
Technical skills and computer literacy are needed to perform the duties of this role, including experience with database software.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position that is primarily on-site and is a salaried position. This position reports to the Director of Member Assistance Program.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000
