JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, the Medical Technologist will independently perform routine and complex laboratory procedures, testing medical specimens, collecting other bodily fluid specimens, labeling and transporting specimens to the lab, inputting data into the computer, and reporting results of laboratory tests in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies, and procedures s. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. The position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Level of Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology, or in a life / biological science or closely related sciences with credit hours meeting AMT or ASCP registry and meets the Georgia requirement of a technologist as defined in DCH law Code of Georgia of a technologist Chapter 111-8-10-.06(4)(b)1-8
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certification or Registry as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists), or AAB (American Association of Bioanalyst) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulate ns. A person who possesses Medical Technologist qualifications and has recently moved into the state of Georgia or recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified as a technologist for eighteen (18) months only to allow the person to complete an approved qualifying examination successfully. AAB provisional certification not accepted.
Work Experience: One year of pertinent laboratory experience is required, and one year of hospital-based laboratory experience is preferred.
