Job Summary: Automation and Controls Engineer
Responsible for technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and project management skills to effectively design, implement, and maintain sophisticated automation systems that enhance production efficiency and quality.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Ensure all automation and control systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
Implement safety measures to protect operators and equipment.
Design and Implement Control Systems including development, programming, and testing of control systems.
Integrate automated solutions such as robots, conveyors, and sensors into the manufacturing process.
Write, modify, and debug PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) code.
Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of CNC machines.
Diagnose and resolve issues with control systems, CNC machines, and automated equipment.
Identify areas for improvement in the manufacturing process and implement enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Create and maintain detailed documentation for control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and program code.
Ensure all automation and control systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations. Implement safety measures to protect operators and equipment.
Develop and enforce SOPs for the operation and maintenance of CNC and automated systems.
Work closely with design engineers, production managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements.
Provide training and support to production staff and maintenance personnel on the operation and troubleshooting of CNC and automated systems.
Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers for procurement of automation equipment, components, and technical support.
Plan and manage automation projects from concept through to completion.
Prepare and manage budgets for automation projects, including cost estimation and financial tracking.
Monitor the performance of automation systems and CNC machinery to ensure they meet production goals and quality standards.
Abilities Required:
Strong knowledge of CNC machinery, PLC programming, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) design, and industrial automation.
Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
Meticulous approach to system design, programming, and troubleshooting to ensure high precision and reliability.
Effective communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams, provide training, and document processes clearly.
Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
General tooling knowledge of various materials including Steel, wood, fiberglass, composites and aluminum.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelors in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial or Computer Engineering or comparable industry experience.
Certifications in any of the following a plus: CAP, CCST, PE, PLC Programming, HMI, SCADA.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, handle, feel, grasp, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
Requires good hand-eye coordination, and finger dexterity.
Work Environment:
May involve the use of oils and solvents.
Willing to work around debris and dust from wood, fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc.
Safety Glasses and shoes may be required.
May require area specific safety training.
This position often works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate to loud.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
