Position Summary of the Software Engineer Team Lead:
The Software Engineering Team Lead ensures that students, staff, and faculty are equipped with the best possible software solutions to navigate database and educational learning systems. The Software Engineering Team Lead works directly with our partners to provide integration solutions, reporting and interfaces that support students, staff and faculty ensuring the functionality of critical technologies to enable “higher learning” for our students. The Software Engineering Team Lead provides process improvement, solution design and implementation leadership to ensure Software Engineering provides quality and optimized solutions to Bryan University.
Responsibilities of the Software Engineer Team Lead:
- Optimizes the management of key applications in the following areas (not limited to):
- Systems and application-level security – user provisioning, data security etc.
- Business processes are supported appropriately by the application
- Facilitate patch upgrades or enhancement application
- Facilitate business needs with application execution
- Manage systems and application specific configurations, automation and interfaces
- Provides process improvement, team leadership, work scheduling and coordination and implements best practices to improve team delivery
- Leads troubleshooting or implementation initiatives coordinating business units and multiple team members
- Works with external departments to understand business requirements and impact, and leads solution design and implementation
- Designs, Architects, Builds, and Deploys solutions to resolve specific problems including advanced software applications, interfaces, vendor deployments, database designs and or database logic.
- Reviews quality of work of Sr. Software Engineers/Software Engineers/Junior Software Engineers and provides mentoring, training and escalation
- Coordinates ongoing vendor relationships and deliverables
- Participate in strategic planning for the growth of the ITS department as Bryan University grows. Actively suggest ideas to help in the planning process
- Provides escalation monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues escalated from other organizations within Bryan University
- Document all coding performed on Bryan University systems
- Advanced Report Query design and creation.
- Continuously develop programming language skills to take on progressively advanced developer roles
- Implements, Maintains and Troubleshoots systems such as applications (custom and 3rd party), reports, integrations and/or database logic
- Ability to sit for six to eight hours
- Ability to physically move computers and other equipment up to 100 pounds
- Flexible hours to allow for after-hours migrations, backups, and supporting nighttime faculty
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
- Other special projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements of the Software Engineer Team Lead:
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college preferred
- Training in Process Optimization methods such as Six Sigma, Lean, Continuous Improvement (Kaizen), Total Quality Management, etc
- 2+ years providing process and people leadership
- 5+ years of experience with Higher Ed applications preferred
- 2+ years of experience with cloud Data Warehouse Implementations
- 5+ years of experience developing, deploying and testing Cloud Native applications
- 5+ years of experience writing code in Python and/or Ruby
- 5+ years of experience developing full stack applications including user interfaces, API development and data modeling
- 5+ years of experience with large scale integrated multi system environments
- 2+ years of experience with vendor management
- Demonstrate an ability to proactively recognize system issues, plan the correction and implement solution without receiving direction from others
- Proactively present solutions when working on large, cross-departmental projects
- Previous customer service experience that demonstrates quality of service
- Previous experience demonstrates focus on process improvement, process optimization, team leadership and cross department coordination to deliver quality software solutions.
- Previous experience demonstrates ability to troubleshoot multifaceted systems and process issues and collaborate to identify steps to resolve and implement.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including MS 365 Admin, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must possess excellent communication skills
- Advanced programming language certifications preferred including Python and/or Ruby
- Intermediate Cloud infrastructure certification preferred
