About the role

We are looking for a Food Scientist to join our R&D team, reporting to the Product Manager- Bean- Free Coffee. You will play a critical role in continuing to develop and improve Voyage’s bean-free coffee. As we are a start-up and small team, responsibilities can vary daily and will also include general operations. This is an on-site position based at our 1800 Campbell St. facility in Oakland, California.

What you’ll do

• Lead commercialization & process development for Bean-Free Coffee within R&D.
• Manage operations, equipment upkeep, and optimization of the Bean-Free coffee pilot plant.
• Develop research projects incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study the potential of new products.
• Plan and execute equipment trials with internal and external partners to validate new processing methodologies.
• Document all phases of research and development in regards to process and communicate results and learnings to key stakeholders.
• Validate and conduct trials with contract manufacturers in conjunction with the product manager.
• Apply learnings from process development into the product development cycle.
• Present regular reports on project progress, problems, and solutions.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Production, Quality Control, and Supply chain
• Apply quantitative methods: analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions, and provide/implement process or document improvement.
• Support with the creation and validation of specification sheets, SOPS, and process flows.

Requirements

What makes you successful / What makes a great candidate

• Experience with product development, roasting, particle size reduction, extraction, evaporation, & spray drying.
• Handling and analyzing analytical data a plus
• 5 years + in the food industry.
• Bachelors in food science or chemical engineering.
• B.S. or B.A. degree, preferably in food science or chemical engineering.

United States-based roles only: The Annual salary for this role is between $92,000-$125,000 plus immediate participation in our benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs. All employees are owners of Voyage Foods and receive an equity grant as part of their total package.
