Position overview
Delta Utilities is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tax Manager to join its team. The Senior Tax Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the tax function for the regulated utility company and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. In addition to supporting the CFO in developing a tax planning strategy, the Senior Tax Manager will create the framework for managing the tax function, internal employees, and external partners.
This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Individuals applying should have a strong background in federal, state, and local tax compliance, tax planning, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to develop and implement processes related to tax, including evaluation of resources needed to run the tax function on an ongoing basis
- Oversee work associated with federal, state, and local tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely filing of all tax returns and related documentation
- Coordinate efforts to support private equity portfolio tax return preparation
- Develop and oversee all tax accounting-related processes, including the push down of income tax attributes for regulatory financial statement reporting in compliance with regulated utility accounting principles
- Supervise the preparation and review of all periodic tax filings required for the company
- Provide leadership and guidance to the internal tax team and coordinate with external advisors to meet objectives
- Support audits conducted by tax authorities and utility company regulators and collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and address inquiries
- Develop and present tax planning strategies to the CFO and Controller
- Contribute to strategic decision-making by evaluating tax implications of business decisions and providing strategic recommendations
- Work with the financial planning team to develop forecasts of accumulated deferred and other taxes
- Establish and maintain appropriate oversight and internal controls over tax compliance and reporting
- Work with the CFO and the finance leadership team to develop strategies for the effective and efficient operation of the finance function
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field is required; a combination of experience and education that clearly demonstrates comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities may be suitable
- Current and valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
- At least ten years of experience in tax management required
- Strong background in utility or regulated industries and private equity portfolio experience preferred
- At least three years of management experience and the ability to work collaboratively within the finance leadership group
- Robust understanding of the regulatory landscape affecting utilities and its impact on tax planning and compliance
- Capability to develop and implement tax strategies that align with organizational goals
- Strong attention to detail in preparing and reviewing tax documents and reports
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Proficiency in tax accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
