About This Position

The Marketing & Communications Manager will report to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and work in a central team of marketing and communications professionals who are collectively responsible for leading organization-wide marketing strategy, implementing integrated marketing campaigns, and promoting various programs and initiatives.

The Manager will also work directly with the Education; Nature in the City; and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, & Access (DEIJA) teams. They will play a vital role in developing communications strategies, crafting content, and executing multi-channel campaigns to drive visibility and support for strategic priorities related to our education, early career pathway, urban greening, and other programs that support the goal of creating more equitable access to nature, careers in the environment, and nature-based education. The Manager will be responsible for elevating this work with various audiences, including existing Mass Audubon supporters and new audiences across the state.

Responsibilities

• Work with marketing and other teams to develop strategies that will build awareness of and support for Action Agenda equitable access priorities
• Craft compelling content via presentations, videos, and other formats to tell the story of Mass Audubon’s equitable access work and drive support for these priorities
• Working with channel-specific experts on the marketing and communications team, weave equitable access content into Mass Audubon social media, blogs, newsletters, email, and other constituent communications
• Identify opportunities to tie equitable access priorities to work across wildlife sanctuaries, conservation science, policy and advocacy, and other teams. Tell the story of how this work is interconnected and complements other initiatives
• Work with DEIJA team to ensure all organizational communications are inclusive and demonstrate cultural humility
• Manage the integrated marketing of key educational programs, including summer camps, preschools, adult education, school and group programs, and youth leadership
• Collaborate with and train Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary and development teams to communicate Action Agenda priorities with visitors and program participants in a consistent and inspiring way; ensure consistent adoption of these practices across the sanctuary system and fundraising teams
• Support outreach by producing and distributing materials, proposing and executing creative outreach tactics, and coordinating logistics for various events, including festivals, educational conferences, fundraisers, and career fairs
• Identify opportunities to strengthen and update internal image collections and manage external photographer and photo shoots to ensure diverse and inclusive representation across new images
• Produce internal staff communications related to education, DEIJA, and related topics
• Perform other duties as needed

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field and at least three years of experience working in communications or related field
• Experience in creating written, audio, and visual content across various communication channels
• Ability to write for a variety of audiences, including the media, current supporters, new audiences, and employees
• Ability to relate to and work with a diverse range of people and exercise cultural humility and inclusion, and commitment to self-education about social justice (we provide ongoing training)
• Knowledge of environmental education, DEIJA, urban conservation, or related fields preferred
• Flexibility and ability to respond to evolving priorities
• Ability to manage several deadline-driven projects simultaneously
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively across teams, while also driving toward collective impact
• Understanding of and commitment to Mass Audubon’s mission and Action Agenda
• Interest in environmental issues, equitable access to nature, and conservation (we provide ongoing learning opportunities)
• Strong attention to detail
• Willingness to attend events on weekends or in the evenings
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Massachusetts (we provide vehicles as required for work-related site visits and events)
• Basic proficiency with graphic design tools, particularly Adobe InDesign, for light editing, is a plus
• Spanish and/or other language skills are a plus

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s pay range is $62,000-$66,000 per year; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

Work Schedule
Full-time schedule of 40 hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional events on evenings or weekends.

Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
