Responsibilities:

Performs skilled, technical work in the application of physical therapy treatments and related duties as assigned and directed by a qualified physical therapist. The work is performed under the supervision of a qualified physical therapist who evaluates the patient, develops treatment plan, and designates the specific responsibilities to the physical therapist assistant.

• Administer modalities; perform massage techniques; administer therapeutic exercise regimens including ROM, PRE, facilitation, etc., gait training and functional training as treatment procedures according to the directions of the physical therapist.
• Assist or conduct group classes or activities.
• Observe, record, and report patient’s reaction to treatments and programs to the supervising physical therapist.
• Provide for and oversee safety precautions during all phases of treatment.
• Confer with the physical therapist and other health care personnel regarding formulation of patient total care and treatment plans.
• Assist in the physical and psychological preparation of patient for therapy.
• Teach patient and family proper use and care of equipment such as braces, wheelchairs, and prosthetic devices.
• Perform record keeping functions and clerical activities related to maintenance and execution of Physical Therapy program.

Qualifications:

Must have successful completion of a two (2) year APTA approved program for Physical Therapist Assistant leading to an AA degree, or the equivalent in accordance with New York State requirements.
