The Grant Accountant is responsible for the financial management, reporting, and compliance of grants awarded to the organization. This role involves monitoring the financial aspects of grant-funded programs, preparing financial reports, and ensuring that funds are used in accordance with grant agreements and regulations. The Grant Accountant will work closely with program managers, finance teams, and external stakeholders to support the successful execution of grant-funded projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Management:
- Manage all financial aspects of awarded grants, including budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring expenditures.
- Ensure that grant funds are utilized in accordance with grant agreements, organizational policies, and applicable regulations.
- Monitor grant budgets to prevent overspending or underutilization of funds.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, including interim and final reports as required by grant agreements.
- Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions related to grants, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Reconcile grant-related accounts and prepare necessary journal entries.
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to grant management, including OMB Circulars, Uniform Guidance, and specific grantor requirements.
- Assist with audits and reviews of grant-related financial activities, providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with program managers and finance teams to develop grant budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis to identify potential issues or opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation of budget modifications and reallocation of funds as needed.
Grant Proposal Support:
- Provide financial data and support for the preparation of grant proposals, ensuring accurate and realistic budget projections.
- Review grant agreements and contracts to understand financial obligations and reporting requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with program managers and other departments to ensure that grant-funded projects are financially sound and meet all compliance requirements.
- Communicate with grantors regarding financial reporting, budget revisions, and other financial matters.
- Provide training and support to program staff on grant-related financial procedures and compliance requirements.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records for all grants, including budgets, expenditure reports, and correspondence with grantors.
- Ensure that all financial documentation is retained in accordance with organizational policies and grantor requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably with grants and contracts in a nonprofit or public health setting.
- Proficiency in NetSuite or similar accounting software.
