Volt is immediately hiring for a Switchgear Testing Technician in Boardman, OR. Relocation packages will be provided along with travel arrangements.
As a Switchgear Testing Technician you will assemble, operate, maintain and test electrical equipment by following standard procedures and instructions defined by manuals. This position involves working on various electrification products such as Switchgears, HPU’s, VFD’s, relays, transformers and various wires and switches.
Requirements
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs and replaces low voltage electric distribution systems and related equipment, including but not limited to switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, solid state control systems, power and distribution class transformers, generators, capacitor banks, solid state meters, protection and monitoring systems, cable and conduit.
- Tests power systems utilizing equipment such as phase meters, hi-potential testers, meggers, and infrared thermometers.
- Troubleshooting capabilities, relay calibration, use of load and power quality recording instrumentation, medium voltage breaker and switchgear testing.
- Physical pre-testing activities for the products to ensure the quality of the product or manufacturing process.
- Mentor less experienced personnel.
- Assist with product testing to ensure proper operation prior to shipment.
- Assist with demonstrating proper operation to customer, inspectors and other interested parties.
- Repair products/equipment with little to no supervision.
- Record observations, test results and make suggestions for improving products, processes.
This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3-5 years of Electrical Testing experience within the industrial field.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associates degree or technical certifications in electrical field preferred.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of testing and troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering configuration and wiring drawings.
- Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, recommend repairs and modifications.
- Understanding of hazards associated with commissioning LV/MV equipment; Must have safety conscious approach and work habits
- Awareness and understanding of company's policies, procedures, products, and services.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to stand (for extended periods of time), walk, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl and twist
- Ability to sit, balance and climb ladders, scaffolds and other objects.
- Ability to carry tools.
- Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas.

Salary: $90,000- $100,000 per year
*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
