Reports to: Managing Physician/ Director of Operations
Position Summary: The midlevel is a caring, compassionate and committed healthcare provider who demonstrates critical thinking and acts within their professional boundaries and provides thorough healthcare for patients throughout the patient process, from documentation of medical history, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The midlevel communicates and works collaboratively with the entire practice team to meet the needs of patients, supports the delivery of policy and procedures, and provides nurse leadership as required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective.
- Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic pain conditions, integrating both drug and non-drug based treatment methods into a management plan.
- Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, as appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols.
- Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
- Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side effects and interactions.
- Prioritize health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including the initiation of effective emergency care
- Encourage patients to adopt preventative health strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
- Deliver care according to practice guidelines while recognizing and working within own competence.
Communication
- Utilize and demonstrate sensitive communication styles to ensure that patients are fully informed of their condition and available treatment options.
- Communicate effectively with patients and caregivers, recognizing the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating.
- Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication.
- Maintain effective communication within the practice environment.
Service Quality
- Uphold the professional code of conduct as regulated by the Practice.
- Deliver care according to practice guidelines and evidence-based care.
- Produce accurate and complete records of patient consultation, ensuring that they are compliant with Practice and legal standards.
- Evaluate patients’ response to health care provision and the effectiveness of care.
- Use a structured framework, such as root-cause analysis, to manage, review and identify learning from patient complaints.
- Assess the impact of policy implementation on care delivery.
Leadership
- Act as a clinical leader and role model in the delivery of services, ensuring that the needs of the patient are a priority.
- Provide mentorship for more junior staff, supporting staff development in order to maximize potential.
- Delegate clearly and appropriately, adopting the principles of safe practice and assessment of competence.
- Actively participate in clinical supervision, contributing to the appraisal of team performance and providing feedback as appropriate.
- Critically evaluate and review innovations and developments that are relevant to the area of work.
- Contribute to the development of local guidelines, protocols and standards.
- Manage and lead on the delivery of specifically identified services or projects as agreed upon with the practice management team.

- Prioritize, organize and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality while ensuring effective time-management.
- Work effectively with others to define values, direction and policies that may influence care delivery.

Risk Management
- Monitor work areas to ensure that they are safe and free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security regulations.
- Supervise the safe storage, rotation and disposal of supplies.
- Oversee and monitor stock control and documentation measures of drug usage according to legal requirements and practice policies.
- Apply infection-control measures within the practice according to local and national guidelines.
Information Management
- Produce accurate and complete records of patient consultation, ensuring that they are compliant with Practice and legal standards.
- Use technology and appropriate software as an aid to planning, implementing and monitoring care.
- Manage information searches using the internet and local library databases.
- Understand responsibility of self and others to the practice and primary care trust regarding HIPPA and other measures that ensure the confidentiality of patient information.
- Collate, analyze and present clinical data and information to the team in a manner that is clear and concise.
Learning and Development
- Assess own learning needs and undertake training as appropriate.
- Support and participate in shared learning opportunities across the practice.
- Communicate lessons and new information to other team members.
- Provide an educational role to patients, caregivers, families and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree in a qualified program.
- National and State Licensure
- Training and experience: At least 3 years of experience in the midlevel role preferred but not required
- Demonstrates interest in self-improvement by attending and participating in in-service programs and workshops/certifications. Possesses skills in the following: Supply Management, Verbal Communication, Infection Control, Creating a Safe and Effective Environment, Organization, Scheduling, Professionalism, Customer Focus, Confidentiality, Bedside Manner, Medical Teamwork.
