NJPNI’s Full Time or Part Time EEG technician is to perform neurophysiologic test including EEGS and video-EEG initiation for pediatric patients. We are rapidly growing and expanding and are looking to hire for both Long term monitoring and Routine video EEGs over 1 hour. EEG technicians are to be responsible for recording electrical activity of the patient's brain to study epilepsy and other seizure disorders, as well as other brain conditions. Performs clerical duties as required.
Job Description
- Responsible for the preparation of the patient. Applies suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions based on the 10/20 system and to check impedance ensuring all electrodes are under 10k, but preferably 5k.
- Calibrates and adjusts EEG NATUS apparatus. Obtains the patient’s cooperation for the best performance of these procedures.
- Selects predetermined montages as well as special combinations made necessary by the case under study. Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts throughout the duration of testing and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them, and troubleshoots as necessary.
- Describes all abnormal clinical manifestations observed during the test and reports to reading Neurologist.
- Uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation (when not contraindicated), photic stimulation, and sleep during testing.
- Extracts relevant information from the patient’s clinical record and obtains additional information for documentation prior to administering the EEG.
- Keeps equipment in a clean operating condition, detects instrument malfunctions and makes minor maintenance adjustments or reports equipment needing major repairs.
- Ensures the pediatric patient is comfortable and adjusts accordingly to avoid artifacts that may skew the testing.
- Works closely with Neurologist and performs other job duties as required.
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Completion of educational program for EEG technicians preferred.
- Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Familiarity and practical experience with Long term monitoring, Routine video EEGs over 1hr, and Ambulatory EEGs both 24hr and 48hr.
- Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electrocephalographic Technologists (ABRET) or equivalent preferred.
- 2 years experience as an EEG Technician with pediatric patients required.
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish (preferred).
- Familiar with NATUS EEG equipment preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills.
