What will the Software Release Manager do?
The Software Release Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful release of high-quality software products and driving the efficiency of our build and release processes. Specifically, you will manage the coordination and acceptance testing of releases across various internal and client environments.
Note: This is a hybrid position. The Software Release Manager may be on site 2 to 3 days a week.
What does a typical day look like for the Software Release Manager?
The person in this position will do the following:
- Develop and manage detailed release schedules that align with clients’ needs
- Lead software development and release projects from inception through deployment, ensuring that they meet clients’ specific requirements
- Coordinate with the Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Operations teams to ensure that all release activities comply with applicable policies and standards
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with the release process
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to deliver releases on time, within scope and budget
- Continuously improve the release management process with a focus on best practices
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all release-related activities, ensuring clear communication with clients
- Provide regular updates on release progress to internal and external stakeholders, including client representatives
- Partner with product management to ensure that releases meet clients’ specific needs
- Work closely with the DevOps team to ensure a reliable and secure release pipeline that adheres to policies and standards
- Lead post-release reviews to capture lessons learned and ensure continuous improvement in future releases
What qualifications do you look for?
You might be the Software Release Manager we’re looking for if you have:
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a government clearance (or you have recently held a government clearance)
- A bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, information systems, engineering, or another related scientific or technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in software release management, with at least 3 years in a project management role
- Strong knowledge of software build and release processes, including version control, build automation, and deployment strategies
- Experience collaboratively working in an Agile environment using best-of-breed issue and project tracking tools such as the Atlassian/Jira suite
- Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices and tools
- Proficiency in cloud-based platforms, infrastructure, and commonly used build and release tools
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills coupled with the ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with a focus on ensuring high-quality software releases
We’re extra impressed by folks with:
- A Public Trust government clearance
- Experience working with Credential/Identity Management Systems, Certificate Authorities, Public Key Infrastructure, and/or Physical Access Control Systems
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification
- Program Management certification (e.g., PMP)
- Certifications in Agile methodologies, systems design and architecture, information security, or cybersecurity
- Experience working with U.S. government security requirements, including HSPD-12, FIPS 201, OMB M-11-11, FedRAMP, and major NIST Special Publication (SP) 800 series standards: SP 800-116, SP 800-72, SP 800-63, and SP 800-53
