We are seeking a Federal Financial Aid Advisor to become an integral part of our team! As a Financial Aid Advisor, you'll guide and support students and their families through the financial aid process.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure regular and reliable attendance.
- Offer excellent customer service.
- Take and make calls for Financial Aid, Placement Verification, and Lead Qualification.
- Share accurate financial aid information.
- Help students apply for various types of financial aid.
- Help students complete and submit the FAFSA and other documents.
- Review and process federal financial aid applications and documents.
- Assess financial need and eligibility for federal aid programs like Pell Grants and Direct Loans.
- Guide student borrowers on entrance and exit counseling.
- Enter and maintain data in ED Express, COD, and NSLDS systems.
- Analyze financial needs and package aid using ED Express.
- Verify and correct financial aid data; prepare Professional Judgment applications.
- Maintain student files, assemble application packages, and handle clerical tasks.
- Counsel students and families on federal financial aid options, eligibility, and application processes.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
- Stay updated on financial aid laws and adjust practices as needed.
- Prepare and award financial aid packages according to guidelines.
- Manage financial aid disbursements and keep accurate records.
- Assist students in understanding their awards and responsibilities.
- Resolve issues related to financial aid, including appeals and loan repayment.
- Maintain financial aid records in line with requirements.
- Generate and review reports on financial aid disbursements and compliance.
- Coordinate with other departments and external agencies for comprehensive student support.
- Complete other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in finance, accounting, business or related fields. Diplomas accepted with work experience in the field.
- One year Experience with federal financial aid programs.
- Great analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and data management.
- Solid understanding of federal financial aid programs and regulations.
- Honest, empathetic, and able to handle pressure well, with strong organizational and people skills.
- Comfortable with technology and financial aid systems (like ED Express, NSLDS, COD, CPS, MS Word, Excel).
- Ability to understand and apply complex financial aid regulations.
- Knowledge of personal income tax laws related to federal financial aid.
- Can work well independently and as part of a team.
- Skilled at resolving conflicts with students and parents and helping them find solutions.
- Communicates professionally with a diverse group of students.
- Organized and able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and good judgment.
- Familiar with financial documents.
Work Environment:
- Typically, office-based, with potential for occasional evening or weekend hours
Weekly Hours & Schedule:
- 25 - 35 hours per week
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Weekends as needed
